How the Gershwins create mood in their songs essays

How the Gershwin's create mood in their songs essays The four Gershwin songs I have studied are Someone to Watch Over Me, Lets Call the Whole Thing Off, Fascinating Rhythm and Foggy Day. In each song the Gershwins have managed to create mood easily through various compositional Techniques. Fascinating Rhythm was written in 1924 for Fred and Adele Astaire. The mood of the song is upbeat, but frustrated. The melody is highly syncopated which along with breathless lyrics makes the song sound agitated and it adds to the effect that this rhythm is causing them disturbance. In the verse of the song it is explaining the situation which is the first thing that sets the mood. The use of a three note droning motif in the main melody creates a rather lost feel to the song, the rhythm is taking over them and they are becoming powerless towards it. The blues notes creates a major/minor ambivalence which adds to the confusion of the singers about the rhythm. The blues notes also emphasises the word rhythm, which emphasises its importance and annoyance in the song. The use of a hard p in pit-a-pats reinforces the constant beat, which in turn reinforces the rhythm and how it is constant and wont let leave them alone. The refrain in FR has 4 sections to it, which are all 8 bars long. The consistency of the bars links to the consistency of the rhythm. The lyrics in the refrain describing the rhythm, are quite different to those in the verse, which are little rhythm whereas in the refrain it is seen as a fascinating rhythm. This changes the mood of the song, it isnt so much of a nuisance anymore, it is actually quite intriguing. Major tonality is established in the refrain for the first time which makes the song sound more together, it no longer is confused. The second A section is a 4th higher than the first, this makes the music sound agitated and breathless. The beginn...

Salaries and Benefits of US Congress Members

Salaries and Benefits of US Congress Members The salary and benefits paid to the Senators and Representatives of the U.S. Congress is a constant source of public fascination, debate- and most of all- fake news.   For example, one massively-sent email states, â€Å"Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term.† Well, maybe many citizens do not have that idea, because it is just flat wrong. Another infamous email demanding passage of a mythical â€Å"Congressional Reform Act† claims members of Congress do not pay Social Security taxes. That, too, is wrong Salaries and benefits of members of the U.S. Congress have been the source of taxpayer unhappiness and myths over the years. Here are some facts for your consideration. As of 2019, the base salary for all rank-and-file members of the U.S. House and Senate was $174,000 per year, plus benefits. Salaries have not been increased since 2009. Compared to private-sector salaries, the salaries of members of Congress is lower than many mid-level executives and managers. Rank-and-File Members: The current salary (2019) for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $174,000 per year. Members are free to turn down pay increase and some choose to do so.In a complex system of calculations, administered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, congressional pay rates also affect the salaries of federal judges and other senior government executives. Congress: Leadership Members Salary  (2019) Leaders of the House and Senate are paid a higher salary than rank-and-file members. Senate Leadership Majority Party Leader - $193,400Minority Party Leader - $193,400 House Leadership Speaker of the House - $223,500Majority Leader - $193,400Minority Leader - $193,400 Pay Increases   Members of Congress are eligible to receive the same annual cost-of-living increase given to other federal employees if any. The raise takes effect automatically on January 1 of each year unless Congress, through the passage of a joint resolution, votes to decline it, as Congress has done since 2009. Benefits Paid to Members of Congress You may have read that Members of Congress do not pay into Social Security. Well, thats also a myth. Social Security Prior to 1984, neither Members of Congress nor any other federal civil service employee paid Social Security taxes. Of course, they were also not eligible to receive Social Security benefits. Members of Congress and other federal employees were instead covered by a separate pension plan called the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). The 1983 amendments to the Social Security Act required federal employees first hired after 1983 to participate in Social Security. These amendments also required all Members of Congress to participate in Social Security as of January 1, 1984, regardless of when they first entered Congress. Because the CSRS was not designed to coordinate with Social Security, Congress directed the development of a new retirement plan for federal workers. The result was the Federal Employees Retirement System Act of 1986. Members of Congress receive retirement and health benefits under the same plans available to other federal employees. They become vested after five years of full participation. Health Insurance Since all provisions of the Affordable Care Act or â€Å"Obamacare† took effect in 2014, members of Congress have been required to purchase health insurance plans offered through one of the Affordable Care Act-approved exchanges in order to receive a government contribution toward their health coverage. Prior to the passage of the Affordable Care Act, insurance for members of Congress was provided through the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB); the government’s employer-subsidized private insurance system. However, not even under the FEHB plan was the insurance â€Å"free.† On average, the government pays from 72% to 75% of the premiums for its workers. Like all other federal retirees, former members of Congress paid the same share of premiums as other federal employees. Retirement   Members elected since 1984 are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). Those elected prior to 1984 were covered by the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). In 1984 all members were given the option of remaining with CSRS or switching to FERS. As it is for all other federal employees, congressional retirement is funded through taxes and the participants contributions. Members of Congress under FERS contribute 1.3 percent of their salary into the FERS retirement plan and pay 6.2 percent of their salary in Social Security taxes. Members of Congress become eligible to receive a pension at the age of 62 if they have completed a total of 5 years of service. Members who have completed a total of 20 years of service are eligible for a pension at age 50, are at any age after completing a total of 25 years of service. No matter their age when they retire, the amount of the members’ pension is based on their total years of service and the average of their highest three years of salary. By law, the starting amount of a Member’s retirement annuity may not exceed 80% of his or her final salary. Can They Really Retire After Only One Term? Those mass emails also claim that members of Congress can get a pension equal to their full salaries after serving only one term. That one is partly true but mostly false. Under the current law, which requires at least 5 years of service, members of the House of Representatives would not be eligible to collect pensions of any amount after serving only one term, since they come up for reelection every two years. On the other hand, U.S, Senators - who serve six-year terms - would be eligible to collect pensions after completing only one full term. In neither case, however, would the pensions be equal to the member’s full salary. While it is highly unlikely and has never happened, it is possible for a longtime member of Congress whose pension began at or near 80% of his or her final salary could - after many years of accepted annual cost-of-living adjustments - see his or her pension rise to equal his or her final salary. Average Annual Pensions According to the Congressional Research Service, there were 611 retired members of Congress receiving federal pensions based fully or in part on their congressional service as of October 1, 2016. Of this number, 335 had retired under CSRS and were receiving an average annual pension of $74,028. A total of 276 Members had retired with service under FERS and were receiving an average annual pension of $41,076 in 2016. Allowances Members of Congress are also provided with an annual allowance intended to defray expenses related carrying out their congressional duties, including official office expenses, including staff, mail, travel between a Members district or state and Washington, DC, and other goods and services. Outside Income Many members of Congress retain their private careers and other business interests while they serve. Members are allowed to retain an amount of permissible outside earned income limited to no more than 15% of the annual rate of basic pay for level II of the Executive Schedule for federal employees, or $28,400.00 a year in 2018. However, there is currently no limit on the amount of non-salary income members can retain from their investments, corporate dividends or profits. House and Senate rules define what sources of outside earned income are permissible. For example, House Rule XXV (112th Congress) limits permissible outside income to salaries, fees, and other amounts received or to be received as compensation for personal services actually rendered. Members are not allowed to retain compensation arising from fiduciary relationships, except for medical practices. Members are also barred from accepting honoraria - payments for professional services typically provided without charge. Perhaps most importantly to voters and taxpayers, member of Congress are strictly prohibited from earning or accepting income that may appear to be intended to influence the way they vote on legislation. Tax Deductions Members are allowed to deduct up to $3,000 a year from their federal income tax for living expenses while they are away from their home states or congressional districts. Early History of Congress Pay How and how much members of Congress should be paid has always been a debated issue. America’s Founding Fathers believed that since congressmen would typically be well-off anyway, they should serve for free, out of a sense of duty. Under the Articles of Confederation, if U.S. congressmen were paid at all, they were paid by the states they represented. The state legislatures adjusted their congressmen’s pay and could even suspend it completely if they became dissatisfied with them. By the time the first U.S. Congress under the Constitution convened in 1789, members of both the House and Senate were paid $6 for each day there were actually in session, which was then rarely more than five months a year. The $6 per-day rate remained the same until the Compensation Act of 1816 raised it to a flat $1,500 a year. However, faced with public outrage, Congress repealed the law in 1817. Not until 1855 did members of Congress return to being paid an annual salary, then $3,000 per year with no benefits. A letter and a statement Essay Example for Free

A letter and a statement Essay Right at the bottom of the page the companys reminder about data protection act can be found. The bottom of the letter is a tearaway slip which has a unique background colour of pale blue. The purpose of this letter is to inform the customer about their bonus claims about their life insurance. The letter is brief and formal. The letter consists of a tear away slip, which takes most of the space on the page. The letter text consists of few paragraphs explaining the how to contact the company about any queries regarding the customers bonus claims. The letter is related to a bonus claim is has a reference number below the address. The letter is generally written in a simple form allowing any one to read the letter and understand it. The letter is split in to two main parts one being the main letter, which has all the text and images and the other being the tearaway slip which is on the letter if any contact details are incorrect. The letter needs a few improvements. Currently there is no background colour for the letter making it boring and making it less important. If the letter had colour, it would allow the customer or person reading it remember it. Generally all of the components are properly located on the letter with the image and text being in the right location. Also the unique thing is that the companys contact details are in a different place then other letters. Other improvements could include making the companys slogan more effective by using colour and a border around it that will make it stand out and look effective. Currently the letter is eligible because of the simple language used with in the letter. Also the letter is set out in simple manner allowing the letter it be understood easily and is precise to the point. If the language changes, this will make the letter hard to understand and can put of some customers. The instructions for the tearaway slips are easy to understand allowing the customer to follow them easily. The Britannia Life statement has the logo situated in the same place as in the letter. The logo is in the top right hand corner of the page. The logo has the companys colours included init being royal blue. The logo consists of a shape that is a rectangle and text saying the companys name. The date cannot be found on the statement. The companys colours are used in the logo as well as the background and in the table. The background colour of the statement is pale blue. The cells in the tables with the headings of the columns have dark blue background. In the middle of the statement the address of the customer can be viewed. On the left of the customers address there is some text explaining a telephone number, which could be used by the customer if they do not understand any thing or have a query. Below there is a big table taking most of the space on the page. The table consists of seven columns. Right at the bottom below the table there is an important notice explaining the company and explanation of the headings. The purpose of the statement is to give the customer information on the current state of their pension funds for the future and the bonuses they have received. The statement also informs the customer of the basic profit and any other new bonus received. In the table all the details about their pension are given including the total basic profit benefit. The Britannia Life statement is easy to understand, as there is no complex language used at all. Mostly it consists of figures and values. The statement is formed of two main parts with the top half consisting of the logo and contact phone number. Also the top half of the statement has the contact address for the customer. The other half of the statement consists of the table, which holds vital information relating the customers pension policy and any bonuses they have received. The statement is set out to landscape format. The Britannia Life statement could not really be improved as the table uses all of the space wisely. The statement is clear and easy to understand. The main thing that could be changed is that the companys contact details should be shown allowing the customer to contact the company easily with out any hassle of finding contact information. The statement has clear headings and values with big points size making it easier by any one to understand unintelligent or unilliterate. The statement currently is really simple made up of tables that divide all the details in to areas. This makes it really simple to understand the costs and bonuses received by the customer on their pension. The background colour around the table makes the table stand out making it simpler to understand the details. Analysis Alliance Leicester has their logo in the same position on letter and the statement being on the top left hand corner of the pages. But AXA has its logo in the middle of the page, right near the top on the statement and on the letter. Both companies use their company colours in the logo. First of AXA used dark blue and red in their logo and Alliance Leicester use orange and blue in their logo. The last company Britannia Life has its logo in the same position on both documents being on the right top hand corner. However all of the companys have situated their logo in different places on the top of the page and all of the companys logos can be recognised by the companys colour being used in them. The Alliance Leicester use a unique layout on their letter as it consists of a line separating the actual letter and some advantages in big point size in bold on right hand of the page. While the AXA letter is simple with only text on it related to the actual letter its self. Also the AXA letter has a lot of free space with the Alliance Leicester letter being more compressed. Overall the Britannia Life is different as it has a tearaway slip making it different from them all. The letter also has space available near the top half of the letter but the bottom of the letter is depressed for space because of the tearaway slip. Generally the Britannia Life letter is simpler to understand then the Alliance Leicester and AXA letter because of the complex language used throughout. All of the letters have the customers address, which is a standard piece of information in the correct place being on the left hand side of the page just below the top of the page. The dates can be found on all of the letter but in different locations. First of all the date on the Alliance Leicester letter is situated on the top right hand side. The date on the AXA letter is found on top right hand side nearly the same position as the Alliance Leicester date. But the date on the Britannia Life letter is found in different location, which is situated above the address on the left hand side of the page. All of the letters have contact details of the organizations on them. Two of the letters have them generally in the same position. The two letters that have the contact details in the same position are the Alliance Leicester letter and the AXA letter. The difference of the contact details is that the Alliance Leicester contact details have a background colour being bright orange but the AXA contact details do not have any background colours or patterns. The Britannia Life contact details are totally in a different position, which is on the top right hand of the page just underneath the logo. The Alliance Leicester letter consists of bullet points as well text. The text has different sub headings to make it easier for the reader to understand what each section is about. But the other letter from AXA and Britannia are simple letters with one overall heading explaining what the whole letter is about and purpose. Those letters do not have any special formatting used with in them for example the bullets points in the Alliance Leicester letter. Different types of information can be found at the bottom of each letter. First of all at the bottom of the Alliance Leicester letter we can find the contact details as well as the copyright trademark act. Consequently only the contact details can be found on the AXA letter. But on the Britannia Life Letter at the bottom the data protection act details can be found informing the customer about how the company regards and obeys the act at all times and explaining to the customer that their personal information is safe with the company. Britannia Life Letter is the only letter to have an image on it none of the other letters have an image on them. The statements are all different with only two statements having the date on them being from Alliance Leicester and AXA. All of the statements use tables in them. The most tables are used in the AXA statement to show all the details about the motor insurance customer details. However in the Alliance Leicester statement the table is used to show the payment due amounts and dates. A big table can be found in the Britannia Life statement, which takes mostly the space on the statement. That table is used to show something totally different from the other statement. It is there to show the bonuses and policy information about the pension funds. All of the statements show the state of different things. The Alliance Leicester statement shows the state of the current account of a customer and shows the payment due dates. The Alliance Leicester statement informs the customer about their credit limit and how much credit limit they have available. The Alliance Leicester statement has a slogan but the AXA statement does not have a slogan. However the Britannia Life statement does not have a slogan but the letter does in a different position being on the top left hand side of the page. The AQA statement shows renewal details of the insurance. It has details of the company and drivers. The details can be found in the tables that have colour used in the cells with the headings same as the Britannia Life Statement table. The Britannia Life statement informs the customer of the state of their bonuses and pension policies with figures and numbers making it easier. The statement does not have a slogan unlike the Alliance Leicester Statement. All of the statements have contact details found on them but all the contact details vary. The only contact detail found on the Britannia Life statement is a telephone number on the top left side of the landscape-formatted page. But on the AXA statement the contact details can be found at the bottom also in the top table, which has a telephone number. The contact details in the Alliance Leicester statement can be found on the top right hand corner. The contact detail is a telephone number and an address. The Alliance Leicester has colour used on it in the logo and a background behind where the credit limit is shown. But the only source of colour on the AXA statement is the colour used in the logo and in the cells, which contain the headings. There is no background colour used. Alternatively in the Britannia Life statement colour is used in the logo. There is also colour used in the background through out the page. Colour can be found in the cells in table, which contain the headings for the columns. The Britannia Life Statement also has a picture in the background of table showing a bridge none of the other statement has an image in the background.

A Teacher with an Expertise in Teaching Essay -- philosophy of educatio

Expertise in Teaching When asked to name the teachers who have had the greatest positive impact on us, we tend to name those who were warm, energetic, enthusiastic, organized, impartial, and competent in their field. Expert teachers employ all of these traits, and, as the text states, are "experienced" and "effective" and have "developed solutions for common classroom problems" (Woolfolk, 2001). I chose to interview my fourth grade teacher, Mr. Mendez, because he not only demonstrates expertise in teaching, but also has created a fun and proactive learning environment, which I hope to emulate in my future classroom. In order to teach effectively, the teacher must have a strong knowledge base of the material (Woolfolk, 2001). Mr. Mendez feels confident teaching all areas of the curriculum. A teacher who does not feel comfortable in his or her ability presenting a certain aspect of the material would most likely have difficulty relating the material to children. Specializing in a subject is not only important for advanced knowledge base, but for practicality as well. Mr. Mendez noted that having different teachers specializing (and teaching) in different areas of the curriculum saves time in lesson planning: students visit another classroom for science, for example. This arrangement also offers him an opportunity to meet with other students. Expert teachers are also instrumental in motivating all students to learn (Woolfolk, 2001). When a student lacks motivation to learn or do work, these experts scout out ways to encourage learning. Mr. Mendez holds his fourth grade students accountable for getting their work in and in on time. The students are given choices as to whether to redo homework for a better grade, thus grantin... ... such abilities. Analyzing Mr. Mendez's comments, I have come to the conclusion that expertise in teaching develops after some time and practice, but is mainly a product of patience, and an understanding of children. Expert teachers are aware of how each individual learns, and is attune to every unique learning style. Preparation is key to establishing teacher quality (Woolfolk, 2001). Expertise in teaching is not a terminal state: methods and styles must continuously be altered to accommodate for each new influx of students. Thus, expert teachers are flexible. However, teachers can develop their expertise by listening to students, offering feedback, noticing effective individual learning styles, and understanding the ways in which each student is unique and special. Statement of Purpose Computer Science

Your 1st question would be why would this guy want to do MS in Computer Science? I was first introduced to Computer when my brother brought me a laptop. Like all kids, my first application was a game. My 1st question was how did this actually work? I was very fascinated by the graphics and how easily the computer understood my moves. I never knew the man sitting behind the screen is nothing but just a few lines of code. This fascination and curiosity led me to take computers throughout my career.First I learnt basics in high school then I took up 4 years undergraduate degree and now I want to pursue masters to research my childhood dream: What is actually behind the computers? I always had a liking towards mathematics be it getting 96% in 10th standard or getting A+ during 1st year of under graduation. I grew more and more fond for mathematics which in turn reflected in my analytical decisions and reasoning skills. I knew I had to choose computers for my undergraduate degree. I got i nto xyz college which is among the top ranked institutes for engineering in India. The courses helped me gain a strong background in the fundamentals of Information Science. These were aptly complemented by the laboratory courses. The challenging assignments that were a part of the laboratory courses helped me to develop the required technical and programming skills. I also started taking part in extracurricular activities and organized technical events, which have helped me develop team spirit and good leadership qualities in me. As being part of these great events, taught me to interact with people and taking decisions. As a part of my final year thesis project, in a team of 2, I built a â€Å"Wikipedia Search Engine†.We noticed this project on the abc University Computer Science website and were very intrigued by it. We decided to test our knowledge and took up this challenge. The project was aimed at building a search engine which would semantically search the Wikipedia an d display the links to the Wiki pages which are closely related to the query given by a user. The search engine would take a phrase from the user as input, go to the related specific Wikipedia page, extract all the inner links and based on the number of count of the input phrase, it would populate the search page with links in their decreasing order of their score. This project gave me profound knowledge and expertise on Java and database concepts. In the third year, I got an opportunity to build a website for Department of Environmental Science. It was a great learning experience as I got exposure to many web technology tools and gained expertize in JavaScript, . NET, CSS. Further studies were always a priority for me but it was my belief that I must gather some valuable work experience in order to gain a larger perspective of the industry. In keeping with this idea I joined Mind Tree. I got trained in .NET technology. When I started working on the project, I realized the difference between course work during 4 years of college and the hands-on knowledge and skills required to succeed in the corporate world. I worked at Mindtree for 10 months and thereafter I got an opportunity to work for McAfee, the world pioneer in network and security. My work experience turned out to be extremely enriching for me on a host of levels. The amount of thought process which goes into building a product is tremendous. Working at pqr and fgh were very different experience.Former has helped me in sharpening my research skills whereas latter has inculcated team spirit and the ability to interact and work with both colleagues and seniors in a proactive manner. It has helped me in accepting the challenges involved to expertise new domain and new technology, getting familiarized to new concepts and has developed a sense of professionalism in me. In my old company, I was a developer working on . Net technologies and database whereas in my current company I’m working as a qualit y assurance engineer.I think, after experiencing corporate world and knowing my strengths, it is the right time to continue my studies to become a pioneer in my field of interest. I strongly believe that the research oriented graduate studies would help gain in-depth knowledge in the field of computer science and thus help me scale up to new heights in my professional career. I am confident that the higher education will give me the desired push towards a career in research and an opportunity to do well in my chosen career. I found your University to be one of the best Universities to pursue research oriented graduate studies.I am eager to work under the guidance of the distinguished faculty members of the University. I found the Department of Computer Science website a very helpful source of the information. I have been able to get good idea about the courses offered at the University and I feel that these courses and research work would help me reach my goals. I am confined that I possess the requisite background and intellectual ability and a high level of personal motivation that will enable me to successfully complete the research work and courses I undertake. The role of engineers in policy making

Policies target jobs. Policy sets forth an apprehension through regulations that govern a state of affairs necessitating declaration. It is created in both domestic and international kingdoms as public policy, with ends of promotion in mark countries such as instruction, wellness and public assistance, defence, and in-migration. While these may be readily accepted as longstanding issues in humanity, with continuing recognition of their being and on-going outgos of monies toward proposed solutions, we must inquire why our policies do n't give us coveted consequences. At a national degree, certain political procedures exist to guarantee that democratic engagement in policymaking exists and this typically occurs â€Å" inside nation-states † ( Stone 2008:23 ) . While critical analysis reveals restrictions to the procedure, there is no such procedure in making international policy. Nanz and Steffek ( 2004 ) remark that â€Å" International administration is distant from citizens, its processs are opaque, and it is dominated by diplomats, administrative officials and functional specializers. † Stone ( 2008:24 ) farther claims that this restriction â€Å" has incapacitated critical thought. † Functional specializers advise diplomats and administrative officials as to the range and comprehensiveness of a given societal job. Horowitz ( 1979:1 ) called them, societal scientists, as â€Å" bookkeepers of the psyche. † They collect informations, proctor advancement, and evaluate consequences to suggest a theory that supports the ir research and probe. They do so in as non-partisan an attack as possible because the strength of their statement is from their rational neutrality ( Stone 2001 ) and assumes the interlingual rendition of the job is right ( Ricoeur 2006:11-29 ) . This positive attack is reinforced by an â€Å" operational codebook for making societal scientific discipline work within a governmental context † ( Horowitz 1979:6 ) . It has been observed during past legion old ages that the consecutive enlargement of the radio communicating and printing imperativeness, have enabled the omnipresent formation, defining, and distribution of information. As a consequence of such advancement, the aptitude for world-wide engagement in determination devising in political relations and other Fieldss has grown to an extraordinary degree, as has the chance for heightening the quality of life. Nowadays, the new universe of vigorous communiqu & A ; Atilde ;  © lies before us and it has all been made likely by the ability, endowment, and devoted work of scientists and applied scientists. The key is to develop and use such ability to reason the fate. Soon, we are come ining in a new epoch of distributed intelligence in which information and cognition is available anyplace to any individual at any clip. In this epoch, information, duty and power moved off from centralized control to the person. Within this position, scientists and applied scientists play a drastic function. Our construction of preparation and instruction must therefore prepare future technology and scientific discipline professionals to shoulder lifting duties and pattern lifting chances. Engineers played a drastic function in technology field by enabling the Industrial Revolution and information age. Furthermore, it is apparent that technological invention is the key to economic growing and wealth creative activity in any state. Harmonizing to the study of National Science Boar and U.S. Council of Economic Advisors, technological revolution has boost up the economic growing by one tierce over the past 50 old ages. Harmonizing to the celebrated economic experts, Peter Drucker, â€Å" wealth is an information building, a human activity that can capitulate both invention and productiveness † . Knowledge maps to duties we already cognize how to make can hike efficiency, while cognition pattern to errands that are new and different is freshness, the procedure of crafting new concerns and administer new services and merchandises to multitudes. The true energy of a state lies in its human capital, peculiarly its technology labour force. Engineers develop new merchandises and procedure and trade and administer new systems for civil fabrication, substructure, information direction, wellness attention bringing, computing machine communications, and others. In common, applied scientists put all their cognition and experience to work for society and help the private sector ‘s latent to craft occupations and wealth for the multitudes. To boom and shore up up richness, applied scientists must show more than first rate scientific and proficient expertness. In a increasingly more competitory universe, applied scientists aid us to do valuable and right determinations about puting immense sum of money, human resources and clip towards common ends. Engineers are the individual who knows how to execute right undertakings at right clip every bit good as knows the right undertakings to execute. For case, applied scientists are able to work in squads and posses good communicating accomplishments. Furthermore, they are resilient, adjustable and flexible. Engineers chiefly focus on the busying a systems attack in their occupation to do correlativity within the model of political, economic, environmental, ethical, and international considerations. Another common illustration is innovation procedure as illustrated by Drucker, i.e. bring forthing and giving from new things contrary to efficiency which implies merely building bin g things more proficiently. On the other manus, the ether of technology is mixing all cognition for some purpose. Engineers as societies â€Å" maestro planimeters † must offer direction in the synchronised and synergistic class of invention and wealth formation. Furthermore, the applied scientist must be able to work across legion diverse Fieldss and subjects and do the associations that will escort to subterranean penetration, more advanced elucidation, and acquiring things completed. Presents, it is revealed that technology pupils spend most of their profession managing with the challenge vastly diverse from those experienced by applied scientists in this new epoch. The rational capablenesss of the hereafter applied scientists will spread out vastly beyond the conventional scientific discipline focused preparation that has portrayed technology tutoring since Second World War. 634 There are certain factors that contribute drastically to this new push, which include worldwide commercial completion which involves the technology employment and industrial organisation chances offered by intelligent engineering normally known as eclectic which is continuously altering occupation environment naming for acute interpersonal accomplishments and lifting apprehension of the demand to put wellness, environment, and safety at the beginning of the design class. Engineers gained mathematical and scientific accomplishments which are considered compulsory for their occupation success. As most of the technology professionals are equipped with the following capablenesss they can execute an outstanding occupation in policy devising for the major Fieldss of the state. These capablenesss are: * Plan in order to run into dependability, safety, and environmental, operational, cost and care aims. * Recognize merchandises i.e. goods or services. * To craft or explicate, manage and continued intricate systems. * Comprehend the physical physique and the industrial, political, economic, societal and international position within which technology is experienced. * Participate and grok the research procedure. * Possess the rational capablenesss needed for larning throughout the whole life. Technology is all approximately practical job work outing in the altering physical universe utilizing proficient, scientific and concern accomplishments. The realistic nature of technology signifies that technology expertness and advice is of important value in explicating a policy and present different countrywide undertakings. For case the desire for technology advice is peculiarly relevant in the field of clime alteration. The biggest trial presents to any authorities is explored for grounds for clime alteration alternatively of explore for resources to hedge its progress and palliating its consequence that is the issue of technology and engineering. Furthermore, crafting professional judgements about the feasibleness of any national undertaking is an built-in portion of the technology preparation. It is become clear that technology advice in policy devising can be a critical in many policy countries. Government has consulted many applied scientists for different countries for policy devising like critical national substructure, Rescue operations, and Energy sectors. Many Government and research institute together with the joint coaction started new ventures to advance different invention and research of energy undertakings for case undertakings where technology is the bosom of the scheme of the Government for heading towards a C impartial economic system. Furthermore, in the recent few old ages, there is a turning support for applied scientist ‘s function in policy devising by the Government every bit good as in private sectors. One of the premier grounds for the lifting demand is that most of the policy shapers are of the sentiment that Engineers possess necessary expertness and accomplishments in the development of natural resources to run into national marks and tests. Furthermore, most of the applied scientists are adept in direction of appraisal and hazard of the technological elucidation to trials like security of energy supply or clime alteration which serves as a necessary portion of good and effectual policy devising. Government is doing immense assignment of applied scientists in public sector to turn its economic system swimmingly. Such assignment would besides travel a important manner to guarantee that technology is decently corresponded to Government and that the desires and parts of applied scientists are dealt wi th by Government in a strategic manner. Most of the policy shapers are of the sentiment that applied scientists who are best qualified should put finest pattern in technology advocate for the Government. Just like a Chief Scientific Adviser is needed for the scientific discipline policy in a section of the Government, likewise technology expertness is needed to explicate a best possible technology policy. Furthermore, Government has besides recognized the significance of applied scientists in policy devising. Many policy shapers believed that suited gratitude should be given to Engineering and Technology in the policy formulating process. The applied scientists has to execute assorted occupations in policy devising procedure as it must be guarantee that their advice has sufficient capacity existed to run into states need. Engineering is non limited to civil service as its capacity and range of work is far more than civil technology. Furthermore, it is recommended that Government needs to be a wise patronage for technology services and advice when it receives. This means that Government should engage such staff for policy devising procedure that understand and measure their best technology advice. Furthermore, such staff should lend with groundss and assess proficient grounds to assorted sectors. Evidence based policy in chief countries such as low C conveyance, energy supply and clime alteration. Such marks and ends in these countries are accomplishable merely if the input of the policy advisors peculiarly technology advises has a clear apprehension of the needed grounds of the given field. China is still a underdeveloped state and it fleetly building itself, factually, and applied scientists are extremely valued in such state. Furthermore, the advancement of Japan lies in a fact that it has conventionally a really strong technology base. It develop itself after the war through high tech technology industries wh ich consequences in a strong economic system of Japan. No uncertainty that bulk in the bing epoch has been enormously attracted towards fiscal services but still both Government value applied scientists and gives them high topographic points to work in policy devising procedure. Engineers can play a drastic function in the recovery of economic system through good policy devising. Engineering and economic recovery sounds two different Fieldss but is closely related with each other with a broader position. Professional applied scientist ‘s occupations are non limited to planing and edifice things that resolve practical issues in the echt universe. Engineering is a much broader term and the range of applied scientist is far more than civil service. Most of the major challenges of the state every bit good as the Earth are handiness of energy at cheaper rate, security issues, clime alteration and H2O handiness are the cardinal issues that needs expertness of applied scientists to repair them. Government needs applied scientists to work closely that represent different subdivisions of technology. However, in wider position, technology community, with a collaborative association of more than 400,000 qualified professional people has late felt that they are to some extent undervalued by policy shapers and politicians voyaging the economic system. Some of the policy shapers nevertheless revealed that technology advice in policy devising procedure are wholly helpful in the station industrial economic system. They believed that the hereafter of the state economic system is predominately in service industries peculiarly in technology industry and fiscal sector. A recent study of technology council revealed that they have found technology field as one of the greatest strength of the economic system and were delighted to happen out that applied scientists are immensely considered internationally more than their places. Furthermore, it is observed that the state failed to utilize its technology lineage to confront the economic challenges coming down line. Gradually the Government took drastic stairss to engage applied scientists in different sections of the Government machinery peculiarly in policy devising to hike up the economic system.Mentions:Horowitz, Irving L. 1979 Constructing Policy: Dialogues with Social Scientists in the National Political Arena. Basketball.

Basketball. BasketballBasketball is a game played on a rectangular court, which is usually indoors. The objective of the game is to score more points than the opposing team by putting an orange, round ball through a hoop called a rim. The rims are placed at opposite ends of the court, ten feet above the ground. The rim is connected to a four by six foot backboard. Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world and it is played by both men and women. Each basketball team is allowed five players on the court at a time. The players consists of two guards, two forwards, and a center. You have to keep bouncing (dribbling) the ball down the court. You can not stop "dribbling" until you are willing to pass the ball to another player. You can not touch another player or it will be called a foul.English: Basketball article stub iconPlaying offence is the most prominent part of playing basketball. Basic offensive skills include passing, ball handling, shooting, and rebounding. Passing the ball i s the fastest and most efficient way of advancing the ball up the court. There are five types of passes that are "chest", where the ball is thrown at chest height, "bounce", where the ball is bounced on the ground before it reaches the other teammate, "overhead", where the ball is thrown with both hands over your head, "baseball-style", in which the ball is thrown like a baseball, and "behind-the-back", in which the player throws the ball at waist height with one hand whipping around the back. Another offensive strategy is shooting. The basic types of shooting are the "layup", the "jump shot", the "foul shot", and the "hook shot".The defense id just as important to winning the game as the offense. The goal of the...

John Bell Hood in the Civil War

John Bell Hood in the Civil War Early Life Career: John Bell Hood was born either June 1 or 29, 1831, to Dr. John W. Hood and Theodosia French Hood at Owingsville, KY. Though his father did not wish a military career for his son, Hood was inspired by his grandfather, Lucas Hood, who, in 1794, had fought with Major General Anthony Wayne at the Battle of Fallen Timbers during the Northwest Indian War (1785-1795). Obtaining an appointment to West Point from his uncle, Representative Richard French, he entered school in 1849. An average student, he was nearly expelled by Superintendent Colonel Robert E. Lee for an unauthorized visit to a local tavern. In the same class as Philip H. Sheridan, James B. McPherson, and John Schofield, Hood also received instruction from future adversary George H. Thomas.   Nicknamed Sam and ranked 44th of 52, Hood graduated in 1853, and was assigned to the 4th US Infantry in California. Following peaceful duty on the West Coast, he was reunited with Lee in 1855, as part of Colonel Albert Sidney Johnstons 2nd US Cavalry in Texas. Adopting the struck in the hand by a Comanche arrow near Devils River, TX during a routine patrol from Fort Mason. The following year, Hood received a promotion to first lieutenant. Three years later, he was assigned to West Point as Chief Instructor of Cavalry. Concerned about the growing tensions between the states, Hood requested to remain with the 2nd Cavalry. This was granted by the US Army Adjutant General, Colonel Samuel Cooper, and he stayed in Texas. Early Campaigns of the Civil War: With the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter, Hood immediately resigned from the US Army. Enlisting in the Confederate Army at Montgomery, AL, he quickly moved through the ranks. Ordered to Virginia to serve with Brigadier General John B. Magruders cavalry, Hood earned early fame for a skirmish near Newport News on July 12, 1861. As his native Kentucky remained in the Union, Hood elected to represent his adopted state of Texas and on September 30, 1861, was appointed as colonel of the 4th Texas Infantry. After a brief period in this post, he was given command of the Texas Brigade on February 20, 1862, and promoted to brigadier general the following month. Assigned to General Joseph E. Johnstons Army of Northern Virginia, Hoods men were in reserve at Seven Pines in late May as Confederate forces worked to halt Major General George McClellans advance up the Peninsula. In the fighting, Johnston was wounded and replaced by Lee. Taking a more aggressive approach, Lee soon commenced an offensive against the Union troops outside Richmond. During the resulting Seven Days Battles in late June, Hood established himself as a daring, aggressive commander who led from the front. Serving under Major General Thomas Stonewall Jackson, the highlight of Hoods performance during the fighting was a decisive charge by his men at the Battle of Gaines Mill on June 27. With the defeat of McClellan on the Peninsula, Hood was promoted and given command of a division under Major General James Longstreet. Taking parting the Northern Virginia Campaign, he further developed his reputation as a gifted leader of assault troops at the Second Battle of Manassas in late August. In the course of the battle, Hood and his men played a key role in Longstreets decisive attack on Major General John Popes left flank and the defeat of Union forces. The Antietam Campaign: In the wake of the battle, Hood became involved in a dispute over captured ambulances with Brigadier General Nathan G. Shanks Evans. Reluctantly placed under arrest by Longstreet, Hood was ordered to leave the army. This was countered by Lee who allowed Hood to travel with the troops as they began the invasion of Maryland. Just prior to the Battle of South Mountain, Lee returned Hood to his post after the Texas Brigade marched by chanting Give us Hood! At no point did Hood ever apologize for his conduct in the dispute with Evans. In the battle on September 14, Hood held the line at Turners Gap and covered the armys retreat to Sharpsburg. Three days later at the Battle of Antietam, Hoods division raced to the relief of Jacksons troops on the Confederate left flank. Putting in a brilliant performance, his men prevented the collapse of the Confederate left and succeeded in driving back Major General Joseph Hookers I Corps. Attacking with ferocity, the division suffered over 60% casualties in the fighting. For Hoods efforts, Jackson recommended that he be elevated to major general. Lee concurred and Hood was promoted on October 10. That December, Hood and his division were present at the Battle of Fredericksburg but saw little fighting on their front. With the arrival of spring, Hood missed the Battle of Chancellorsville as Longstreets First Corps had been detached for duty around Suffolk, VA. Gettysburg: Following the triumph at Chancellorsville, Longstreet rejoined Lee as Confederate forces again moved north. With the Battle of Gettysburg raging on July 1, 1863, Hoods division reached the battlefield late in the day. The next day, Longstreet was ordered to attack up the Emmitsburg Road and strike the Union left flank. Hood opposed the plan as it meant his troops would have to assault a boulder-strewn area known as the Devils Den. Requesting permission to move to the right to attack the Union rear, he was refused. As the advance started around 4:00 PM, Hood was badly wounded in his left arm by shrapnel. Taken from the field, Hoods arm was saved, but it remained disabled for the remainder of his life. Command of the division passed to Brigadier General Evander M. Law whose efforts to dislodge Union forces on Little Round Top failed. Chickamauga: After recuperating in Richmond, Hood was able to rejoin his men on September 18 as Longstreets corps was shifted west to aid General Braxton Braggs Army of Tennessee. Reporting for duty on the eve of the Battle of Chickamauga, Hood directed a series of attacks on the first day before overseeing a key assault which exploited a gap in the Union line on September 20.   This advance drove much of the Union army from the field and provided the Confederacy with one of its few signature victories in the Western Theater. In the fighting, Hood was badly wounded in the right thigh which required the leg to be subsequently amputated a few inches below the hip. For his bravery, he was promoted to lieutenant general effective that date. The Atlanta Campaign: Returning to Richmond to recover, Hood befriended Confederate President Jefferson Davis. In the spring of 1864, Hood was given command of a corps in Johnstons Army of Tennessee. Tasked with defending Atlanta from Major General William T. Sherman, Johnston conducted a defensive campaign which included frequent retreats. Angered by his superiors approach, the aggressive Hood wrote several critical letters to Davis expressing his displeasure. The Confederate president, unhappy with Johnstons lack of initiative, replaced him with Hood on July 17. Given the temporary rank of general, Hood was only thirty-three and became the youngest army commander of the war. Defeated on July 20 at the Battle of Peachtree Creek, Hood launched a series of offensive battles in an attempt to push back Sherman. Unsuccessful in each attempt, Hoods strategy only served to weaken his already out-numbered army. With no other options, Hood was compelled to abandon Atlanta on September 2. The Tennessee Campaign: As Sherman prepared for his March to the Sea, Hood and Davis planned a campaign to defeat the Union general. In this, Hood sought to move north against Shermans supply lines in Tennessee forcing him to follow. Hood then hoped to defeat Sherman before marching north to recruit men and join Lee in the siege lines at Petersburg, VA. Aware of Hoods operations to the west, Sherman dispatched Thomas Army of the Cumberland and Schofields Army of the Ohio to protect Nashville while he moved towards Savannah. Crossing into Tennessee on November 22, Hoods campaign was beset with command and communication issues. After failing to trap part of Schofields command at Spring Hill, he fought the Battle of Franklin on November 30. Assaulting a fortified Union position without artillery support, his army was badly mauled and six generals killed. Unwilling to admit defeat, he pressed on to Nashville and was routed by Thomas on December 15-16. Retreating with the remnants of his army, he resigned on January 23, 1865. Later Life: In the final days of the war, Hood was dispatched to Texas by Davis with the goal of raising a new army. Learning of Davis capture and the surrender of Texas, Hood surrendered to Union forces at Natchez, MS on May 31. After the war, Hood settled in New Orleans where he worked in insurance and as a cotton broker. Marrying, he fathered eleven children before his death from yellow fever on August 30, 1879. A gifted brigade and division commander, Hoods performance dropped as he was promoted to higher commands. Though renowned for his early successes and ferocious attacks, his failures around Atlanta and in Tennessee permanently damaged his reputation as a commander. Does a Focus on the Question of Gender Re-frame Our Understanding of Essay

Does a Focus on the Question of Gender Re-frame Our Understanding of World Politics, If So How - Essay Example This essay stresses that just as a family needs a father and a mother, so too do these two genders need to be incorporated in the social, economic and political aspects of society. We have entered an age where men and women should couple their best leadership qualities to achieve greater results. Gender roles in the ancient society had been stereotyped based on what one was expected to do according to their sex. However, gender and power determine the success derived from the opportunities received. The historical male chauvinism where men dominated the force of power in culture, society and politics is wearing out. Women have become known and more respected in areas that were male dominated. Using their femininity to convey a different aspect of power, women have made the power between men and them equal. Equality in power and gender has been attained due to great men and women of the time. This paper makes a conclusion that on a critical sense, issues relating to gender have re-framed people’s understanding of the world. We are in a new world where every race, gender, culture, ethnic and political affiliation recognises their rights and advocates for an equal treatment. Gender issues have refuted ancient philosophies that perceived women as weak sex and the male as dominants in all aspects of life. Today women have a voice. They almost equally contribute to life promoting processes as men. The old belief that the world was a ground of experimenting the strength of a gender, race, tribe or religion is drastically losing meaning.
